Chief Gillikin has approximately 28 years of law enforcement experience and has been the Chief of Police in Smithfield since 1997. He is a North Carolina native and a 1980 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his Masters of Liberal Studies from North Carolina State University in 1996. In addition, he is a graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program (AOMP) at NCSU and the 177th Session of the FBI National Academy.
Capt. Gentry currently serves as the Operations Commander for the Smithfield Police Department. In that position he is responsible for all uniformed and investigative personnel in the department. Capt. Gentry is a graduate of NCSU and has served with the department since 1992. He is also a graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program (AOMP) at NCSU and the 222nd Session of the FBI National Academy.
Ms. Kirby is the new Support Services Manager for the police department. Lynne has been with the department since July of 1996. She began her career with the Town of Smithfield Finance and Planning Departments in 1992. In 2007 Lynne assumed the duties of this newly created position and is responsible for all civilian functions to include evidence, police records, animal control, and communication and computer technology issues. Lynne is a native of Johnston County. She attended Johnston Community College where she received a Paralegal Degree and is currently finishing up work on her bachelor’s degree from Mount Olive College..
